What is Workplace Mediation?

Workplace mediation is a structured process whereby individuals in dispute can be heard in an impartial setting, there has been a sharp increase in workplace mediation for bullying and harassment cases.  Independent mediators being the preferred choice of  the workforce as a an impartial outsider. 

Most workplace mediations are completed within one day, and are done on the employer’s premises. 

The process 

The individuals in dispute have a confidential and non-judgmental meeting with the mediator, this usually takes place in the morning.

In the afternoon both parties meet with the mediator who facilitates a structured process of discussion and negotiation.

When an agreement is made the mediator will draw up an agreement which is then (where necessary) shared with the appropriate line managers prior to signing by both parties.  Each party will receive a copy of the mediation agreement.
